The art of playing
Friday, 16 April 2010 12:34

Manuel and Kumi has known each other for quite some while now. And that shows, especially when they are playing. At the start we had to guide them a lot since playing is a matter of trusting each other, being able to see each others boundaries, and respecting them.

Nowadays they can play without being too excited. They can feel when the pulse is starting to get a bit too high for the "other" and stops for some seconds, "shakes off" the tension and starts all over again in a slower pace. They can play in full speed or in a more caring manner (even though Manuel not really appreciates Kumi licking his ears, but he endures).

Kumi wants to play...and knows how to slowly make him interested.

Then it is time for a brake. Different needs, but both involving fluids.

Manuel knows when to shut his eyes not being injured by her playful paw ;-) He as learn that the "hard way". Luckily his eye was not that bad...

So Kumi's way of playing, shows how she would fight. Even though she is small, she is fast, so if in a fight with a larger dog, she would for sure go for the legs. Smart I believe. No matter how big you are...with your legs not working, you can not hurt me not matter how small I am. At the start her playing-grip of Manuel's legs where a bit too hard, but now, now she knows how to play "that game".

Manuel is very patient with her, but don't worry, he has it all under control. He has his ways, and when he thinks it's "his turn" he simply takes a firm grip over her neck, and boom, she is on the ground. But he never holds her down as he would in a "real situation" and I can see no-one of them are uncomfortable. This is the best thing about shooting pictures, that I can use the pictures to see situations which are too fast for the eye.
