Wednesday the 12th of May 2010 Hm I didn't take any pictures in the morning, so I hope to steal some pictures from the others to add later on. Anyhow, we went through lovely woods with cork trees, crossed meadows with cows and came very close to the beach....we had lovely views! We had some nice canters as well. There came showers of rain, I didn't wear rain-trousers, so I got wet, but amazingly got dry very fast again. After some hour or so, I felt that Paloma stopped for a second when walking, she did not react on me asking her to move forward (strange being her) I felt a tension in her body so I asked Linda to look if she dribbled, and so she did, her heart beat fast so I jumped off and asked Linda to get Luis (I was at the very back of the line). He came, and I said that something was wrong, he checked her, and yes she was having a high pulse and her muscles was cramping a bit. He got his first aid-kit and gave her a shot. (Muscle-relaxing and pain-killer) Immediately she became a bit better. He asked if she had been drinking, and yes she had...maybe not loads but still... So I walked her the remaining part to our lunch-place and she managed well. I am glad I had my walking-shoes on... When we arrived she was offered water, and she had some, the she lay down to rest for a short while, and then she stood up and started eating grass. I believe she had imbalance when it comes to salt, minerals and fluid. She is very thin, no extra energy-cache. Yes she was drinking, but she was also sweating and I think the "system went wrong". After lunch she felt quite OK, so she walked besides Luis and his horse, and I went by car to our next stop. The lunch-table was set and ready when we arrived and we enjoyed the meal, and some of us took the opportunity to stretch some muscles.
Did I mention Cava? As I arrived much earlier to Cantallope than the others, I spent some time checking out the small village and as usual, I was drawn to the dogs . One dog, a Labrador Retriever didn't like me at first, he had his tail straight up and was scared, but playing tough... I ignored him and after a while he wanted to be petted.
Then Duende arrived, the horse that should replace Paloma. His face-expression reminded me of one of our previous horses, Dino.
Suddenly all the dogs in the village started barking - I knew they were coming. First came Luis, with Paloma, and she looked OK, so I was relieved. Then came the others, all with big smiles all over their faces! Beate's horse had become lame just at the very end, so she came walking. This meant that they would need to bring yet another horse from Can Jou to Cantallope. Tough logistics, since they already brought Duende, and that the other group also had to have a horse transported. (They were on another trail, far from us.)
Thank you for bringing us this far! Hope you get some nice relaxing vacation now!
When all horses were in place at a meadow, groomed, fed and given water, we had some really nice wine-tasting and and a showing of the winery. Then we drove back to the Spa-hotel in the mini-vans, some had a sauna, we all had a nice supper and collapsed in our beds with happy smiles all over our faces.
